Residents

Charlotte Hall Veterans Home provides a continuum of long term care to its residents, from Assisted Living, to specialized Skilled Nursing, to care for those with Alzheimer's disease. Charlotte Hall's Assisted Living Program is designed to meet the needs of veterans requiring minimal assistance with everyday activities, and is intended to help maintain their independence. In addition to their room and board, Assisted Living residents receive primary medical care, all Home physician prescribed medications, transportation to and from the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC (for those who wish to utilize the VA medical system), one free barber/beauty service per month, free local telephone service, free cable TV service, and a separate activities program tailored to a more active lifestyle.

In addition to the care and services received by Assisted Living residents, Charlotte Hall's Skilled Nursing unit residents receive the additional care appropriate for those with medical and behavioral issues beyond that which can be provided in Assisted Living.

Specialized care for men and women suffering from Alzheimer's and other related dementias is provided in the Home's two secure 42-bed units. The Home's Alzheimer's support group meetings are open to the families of the home's dementia residents to help them understand and cope with the varied aspects of that disease.

The Home has two Medical Directors, one each for Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing units, each of whom is certified by the American Medical Director's Association, who supervise the medical staff on those units. Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing units are each staffed with physicians who make rounds once per week, as well as Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who are on site daily. Assisted Living also has a Psychiatrist on staff.

To provide the best quality nursing care for our residents, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home is staffed with Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Geriatric and Certified Nursing Assistants, and Certified Medicine Aides who carry out the orders of our physicians. These skilled and caring individuals are here twenty-four hours a day to make life at Charlotte Hall enjoyable and dignified.
